Nicola Atkins, owner of the Multi-Award Winning Utopia Beauty Salon, Oxfordshire talks about the importance of embracing the festive season.

"Christmas is the perfect time of year for retailing and topping up your salon's takings with extra income."

- Get ready in November - The earlier you start the better in order to catch the Christmas trade. Whilst I would not think about Christmas decorations at home until December, we have realised that many people like to start shopping early, and so the festivities begin in early November for us. The salon windows are dressed for Christmas and we bring out our seasonal stock, like Stocking Fillers and Gift Sets.

- Let your Windows dazzle - It's important to us that people walk past and realise we are not just a salon, and that anyone is welcome to walk in and purchase gifts as they would in a shop. A fantastic window display is imperative for catching people's attention as they walk past. Fairy lights are perfect to catch the eye and to illuminate the salon even after closing.

- Displaying your products - Our retail space is within our reception and waiting area, making it an ideal place for clients to browse whilst they are waiting for their treatment. Signs highlighting 'hot spots' and specific gifts help draw attention to the products, whilst the new trends of Light Boxes are great to help catch the eye and highlight your display areas. - Special Offers - I find that add-ons work better than discounts, so rather than offering a discounted service or product to drive more sales, we add extras onto their purchase so clients can get more for their money. For example a small gift or mini nail varnish a purchase of 2 or more gift sets."
